15 Healthy Summer Dessert Ideas Featuring Summer Fruits
Summer is the perfect time for creating easy and healthy desserts. I have been having a great time using Foodie.com to find inspiration for desserts all summer long. I can’t wait to try them all. I created my own healthy dessert for our 4th of July celebration, but this Patriotic Trifle can be enjoyed anytime of year.
Ever wonder what the difference is between a parfait and a trifle? I did, so I looked it up. Apparently, a trifle has some sort of cake included, while a parfait does not. I nearly called this dessert the Patriot Parfait (it does have a nice ring to it). This recipe only has about 1/2 a brownie in each serving, which keeps the fat and calories down. Here is my Patriotic Trifle recipe:
- Two brownies crumbled
- 2 cups fat free vanilla frozen yogurt
- 1 cup fresh raspberries
- 1 cup fresh blueberries
Simply combine the ingredients in layers keeping a red, white and blue theme with the brownie crumbles on the bottom and a few on the top. Ideal if you can serve immediately, but I’ve also kept some in the freezer for 30-60 minutes and they still tasted delicious! Easy peasy as my daughter would say.
