Yup, it’s that time again. It’s time to make another comeback. We all need them from time to time. My last “comeback” focused on updating my wardrobe. This time, I am trying to bounce back from an illness.
I had an infection in May that caused a major setback in my fitness. It was in my pelvis (sorry if that’s TMI) so it affected practically all movement except for walking. The infection took FOREVER to get under control. I also needed to change my birth control, which has caused a return of cramps, major bloating and PMS each month. Not fun! I turned to food for comfort A LOT!
Summer vacation has not helped either. Overall, it’s been a great summer. I’ve had some wonderful family time, which was another major goal for me since my original comeback. Family comes first, but I have been in denial about what I am putting in my mouth. Kids having ice cream? Sure, I’ll join them. Kids having chicken fingers and fries? Why not me?
Yesterday, I put on pants that are usually very lose and they were totally snug. Yikes! I am not happy about ME when my weight is above my average and it’s really starting to creep up. In fact, I’m seeing numbers on the scale that I have not seen in a very long time.
I am typically not one to worry about the scale, but when it means my clothes are not fitting, it affects my emotions. Once again, I turn to food for comfort. I even purchased a few new bottoms in larger sizes to be comfortable. That is not a solution I have used since pregnancy. That is NOT ok.
My Comeback Plan
My plan is to embark on a Back to School challenge. With the kids back in school, I need to make more time for my fitness. I have already purchased 8 classes at a wonderful Pilates gym near me. I’ll be attending a healthy cooking class the first week in September. I’m also coaching my daughter’s soccer team, which requires a lot of running around during practices. I also plan to start tracking my food and calories with My Fitness Pal and spark up the FitBit again. I hate tracking, but it always helps me reach my goals. It’s time to get serious! The voice inside my head kept saying, “I’ll get back on track when school
Have you had a setback over the summer? Want to join me in my Back to School Challenge? What are your plans to make some changes? I’d also love encouragement for my comeback so leave some love in a comment. Thanks!
MyFitnessPal is great for logging and tracking food (I sometimes use this), but for lazy people like I, this tool is also not bad: http://happyforks.com I use this to check nutritional values of recipes from my favorite blogs. It can tell if you eat enough amount of all important vitamins and minerals.
I’m so part of the comeback plan. I’m up 30+ pounds (too scared to look) and am trying to focus on healthy choices over scale movement.
i wish you luck and focus. Its easy to be lazy… but it is also easy to not be if you just try!
I am sure you will do great. Looking forward to seeing posts on your soccer coaching!!
I am hoping to get picked as a Nutri-System Blogger. That would be a whole new approach for me.
Good for you. I have done Diet-to-go, which I like, but all the meals take up a lot of room in the freezer.
The healthy cooking class is a unique way to look at getting back on track and in shape. You’ve inspired me to check for some classes in my area!
I am really lucky to have a friend who is an RN, RD and vegan to teach me some great stuff about eating healthier. It’s not that I don’t know it, but she teaches some fun ideas that I would not typically try.
Oh Jenn! I’m so into this with you! I’m planning my comeback too! Let’s encourage ourselves!
Yes, let’s definitely encourage one another. Is there a 5K or 10K maybe we can do together this fall? I did a 5K at Fitbloggin using a 30/30 interval. It was great.
Sounds like you have a great plan in place. I’ve never tried Pilates but I’ve heard that it is great. The cooking class sounds like a lot of fun. If you need an extra push I can send you a goat to erm, nudge you along. heh
Good idea. Send those goats over. LOL!
What a great plan and a reminder that setbacks will happen and we just need to get up and try again . Good luck and I know you will achieve your goals.
Thanks for the encouragement.
