Are you ready for Back to School? I am a bit stressed about all of the things I need to get ready. I want to make sure the entire family feels prepared without too much stress. With some inspiration from the folks at Emergen-C and ChapStick, I did some research about how to minimize back to school stress and came up with these tips.

Tips for Relieving Back to School Stress

Stay Positive

Your attitude as a parent is very influential as to how your children feel about returning to school. Let them know that it’s OK to feel a little nervous, but that you are excited about all of the fun things they will get to do. Reminisce about what went well last year and the potential for new experiences and growth in the coming year.

Create Fun Traditions

We like to create special memories of the first day of school. I always take a photo as the kids head out the door. We have a special celebration that night with a family dinner at our favorite restaurant. We chat about how the day went and if they have any questions or concerns.

Knowing that this time of year often comes with the germs that the kids bring home from school, I started a new tradition for me. I came up with a Back to School Smoothie recipe using Emergen-C and other healthy ingredients like fresh berries and almond milk.

Emergen-C is packed with B vitamins, antioxidants†, electrolytes plus more vitamin C than 10 oranges. With over 20 flavors, you have plenty of delicious varieties to choose from.* It’s a great way to kickstart my day.

Berry Back-to School-Smoothie

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1 packets of Emergen-C Raspberry vitamin drink mix
  • 1 cup of almond milk
  • 1 cup of frozen mixed berries
  • 1/2 banana
  • 1 cups of ice (crushed or cubed)

EmergenCBox

DIRECTIONS:

Blend all ingredients on high speed. Pour into a fancy glass (why not have fun with it, right?). Enjoy immediately. No one likes a melted smoothie.

I’m dreaming of taking a few sips after sending the kids off to school. Ah, so refreshing!

Keep your family active

Exercise is a great way to help get rid of nervous energy. We typically take an active vacation the week before school starts. This helps everyone focus on having fun. The energy we expend each day also helps the kids transition to falling asleep earlier to get back to regular school bedtimes. Then we can get up early to hit the hiking trails or take a bike ride. This helps their bodies get used to “school year” bed and wake times before school starts.

Get Organized

Start shopping for school supplies early. Last year I made the mistake of waiting too long and many supplies were sold out. This year, I’ve already started shopping. One of the items my kids really needed last year was lip balm. The weather gets cold quickly in New England and my kids lips get dry and cracked. I made sure to get both my son and daughter some ChapStick to keep in their lunch bags. It’s important to me that ChapStick softens and protects lips every day with 11 moisturizing ingredients and SPF 12 provides UVB protection. The hydrating formula contains aloe and vitamin E.

Designate “Homework” Time

Some schools assign homework over the summer. We are lucky that it’s not too much. Typically my kids are finished with these assignments by the middle of the summer. Through the rest of the summer, we make sure to keep a designated “homework” time for reading, journaling, etc. It’s a way for the kids to keep the idea of homework in their schedules so that it’s not too challenging when they return to school.

I love how easy it is to find everything I need (including Emergen-C and ChapStick) at Walmart. Emergen-C is located in the vitamin aisle. It comes in more than 20 great flavors. I decided to try the raspberry, but it also comes in orange, tangerine, cranberry and pomegranate, tropical, lemon and lime, acai berry, pink lemonade, coconut and pineapple, strawberry and kiwi, berry bliss and lemon. Wow! Get $2.00 off Emergen-C here!

ChapStick also has a wide variety of choices. I selected Classic Strawberry for my daughter and Classic Original for my son. He’s not big on the fruity flavors. You can find ChapStick in the Lip Care aisle. Get $.50 off ChapStick here!
