BODYARMOR Sports Drink – Should You Upgrade Yours?
I was delighted to receive a pack of six flavors from the folks at BodyArmor. I have never tried a sports drink with this ingredient combination so I was eager to give it a try. My father, who had recently flown in from Thailand really liked the Fruit Punch. He felt that it helped with his recovery from such a long flight. My kids also loved the fruit punch flavor. So what’s in BodyArmor anyway? Here is the infographic from the company website.
I like that BodyArmor Sports Drink (they call it SuperDrink) provides a boost of vitamins in addition to the traditional electrolytes of most sports drinks. They also use real sugar, which I appreciate compared with other drinks using other syrups are fake sugars. The problem is that there is A LOT of sugar. I don’t think this much sugar is necessary. Each serving contains 18 grams of sugar. There are 2 servings in a bottle so that is too much in my book. Here is a screen capture of the ingredients in the Fruit Punch flavor.
The ingredients are more “natural” than some other drinks on the market so that is also a plus. I really do like the flavors especially the Mixed Berry and the Tropical Punch. Each serving only having 70 calories is another plus. I chose to cut the serving in half with water to cut down the sugar. I still felt a nice boost of energy and hydration. I brought some BodyArmor hiking with me and it was very refreshing to quench my thirst and help my muscles recover.
Regardless of what you choose to drink, hydration is essential for optimal health. Having a healthy balance of electrolytes and vitamins is better than just water. That said, I recommend BodyArmor, but suggest cutting the serving in half with water to minimize the sugar. I’ll leave that up to you.
You can buy BodyArmor on their website. It’s a little less than $2 per 16 oz. bottle. There is also a store locator function on the site.
I have tried these. They are pretty tasty. And you are right, they do not have a sugar crash which is pretty awesome!
I am always leery of fruit punch flavored stuff but I actually tried some BodyArmor at a recent event I attended and it was great. Really tasty.
I have to agree with you, they definitely could cut the sugar a bit. But you were brilliant to water it down…..just like I used to do with apple juice.
When we go to Disney World we walk A LOT so the kids always want a sports drink. This will be a good one to pack!
Nice – it sure has an impressive list of ingredients
Looks like a must try!
I probably need to get one of these. My dh and I are dieting and working out a lot. But we drink mostly water. I know sometimes you need a little kick.
Doesn’t look like they’re available in our area yet. Will keep an eye out for them to try it!
I don’t use sports drinks so I’m not that familiar with what is good and bad but I too would appreciate the use of real sugar over syrups and the like. Would an excess of sugar cause a crash or would the other ingredients balance that out?
The other ingredients seem to balance it out as I never felt a sugar crash.
