Boston Day Trip – Newburyport, Plum Island and Aroma Joe’s

Eating lobster rolls, drinking lemonade, walking on a beach, nature walking in a National Wildlife Refuge… What else would you want on a day off? On a recent Saturday, with temps heading towards 70, that’s just what my husband and I did.

We hopped in the car for a day trip to the northern coast of Massachusetts. Here, you will find a number of quaint towns and picture-perfect beaches. During our Boston day trip, our itinerary for the day included lunch in Newburyport, lemonade-tasting at Aroma Joe’s and a nature walk on Plum Island.

First Stop: Newburyport

Newburyport’s brick buildings and white churches show off their Federal style heritage. The center of town is well preserved so even with new modern shops, it has the look and feel of a historic village. My husband and I had lunch at a dockside restaurant where I enjoyed my first lobster roll of the season. Delicious!

Next Stop: Lemonade at Aroma Joe’s

Before heading out to Plum Island, I couldn’t wait to try the company’s new line of refreshing lemonades. We checked out the Salisbury location. It’s cozy with lots of seating. It even has couches next to a wall-mounted fireplace. I felt right at home. The staff was super friendly too.

Aroma Joe’s lemonades are totally customizable with delicious flavors like blueberry, raspberry, and more. You can also choose from still, sparkling or frozen.

My husband and I tried three varieties. I had a still with blueberry, he tried a still with half tea and half lemonade and we split a sparkling plain lemonade. All were delicious!! I can’t wait for my kids to try the frozen lemonade. They are going to LOVE it!

I feel good about the fact that the Aroma Joe’s lemonades are made with real lemons, no artificial colors or flavors, and are non-GMO.

Onward to Plum Island

Plum Island is a wonderful place to explore, play and relax. In addition to beachcombing, visitors can enjoy fishing, boating, kayaking. We chose to relax for a while enjoying the fresh ocean air. A bit farther down the island is the Parker River National Wildlife Refuge. Here we did some bird watching and nature walking.

More Aroma Joe’s

Before we left the area, we couldn’t help but stop at Aroma Joe’s again. This time, we grabbed some of their famous coffee to bring home. It’s so great that Aroma Joe’s can be a one-stop shop to satisfy the drinking desires of the entire family. Besides coffee and lemonade, you can get iced tea, frojoes, Cold Brew, real-fruit smoothies and hand-crafted sodas.
