Building a Better Blog Roll

Build a Better Blog RollHow do you build a better blog roll? Well, I am working on it as my day 3 idea for the #28DBC (28 Day Blog Challenge). I would like to connect with other bloggers, especially moms in all areas of my blog categories like fitness, health, wellness, style, fun, parenting, family, etc. I don’t know about your, but I think it feels good when someone puts me on their blogroll. It’s like “Cool! This great blogger likes me enough to refer me to their readers!” I found this great quote about blog rolls:

The internet without links is like a road with no intersections. However, unlike with public infrastructure, we can build the connections ourselves without risking arrest. Make the blogging experience better for yourself, your readers, and your community with a blogroll. –

I agree that having a good blog roll helps build a great community and helps open doors for connections that readers might not otherwise make. I’d love to hear your ideas about making improvements to blog rolls. What works for you? What doesn’t. I am thinking about adding a “hover” option too so that if folks hover over a blog roll link, they will get a brief summary about each blog. Anyone else use this idea?

If you would like to be featured on my blogroll, and hopefully feature me back, please leave a comment with your information or PM me at comebackmomm at gmail dot com. I am happy to do a button swap for my side bar as well.

If you have other blog roll ideas to share, please feel free. I’d love to get feedback. So, let’s build better blog rolls together.

Sharing is caring!

Great idea! I am stinking at the 28 day challenge right now, but would love to link up. I just recently found your blog, but we are both located outside of Boston! What town/city do you live in? :)

I am in Tyngsboro, but my husband and I own a gym in Chelmsford, MA (

My blog is and I write about fitness, nutrition, being a momma and life in general. I love encouraging other busy moms to make their health a priority even though it's hard to squeeze it in.

I've never done a blog roll but I know that I've clicked on blogs that I've seen in others. Usually it was from a DIY or food blog. After you've done it for a few months, I'd love to hear what you thought of the experience.

I will let you know. I stared my new one a few months ago and realized that I already needed to make some changes for broken links or folks who no longer linked back. It is a work in progress.

I am on the fence about blog rolls. I used to have one, way back when I only read about 12 blogs regularly. Easy enough to look at in the side margin. I ended up pulling it from my site for 2 reasons; it was too long to include everyone and required updating regularly (which I seemed to have a hard time doing).

I do like the idea, though, of linking to other blogs with a similar theme/focus. What do you think about adding a sidebar widget to display (reciprocal) blog links with other bloggers? I'd love to swap with you!

Thanks for the feedback Tamara. What type of widget would you recommend? Do you mean something simple like the one Toni has on RunningLovingLiving?
