What Would Be Your Dream House?

I’m participating in a weekly writing prompt with Mama Kat of Mama’s Losin’ It. She provides a number of prompts each week. This week, I chose the prompt “Describe your dream home.” This prompt conjured fun pictures in my mind about what my dream home might be like. There are so many different ideas flooding my thoughts. I almost can’t imaging just one dream home. I think there would be different homes based on the periods of my life. Here are the ideas I’ve come up with.

dreamhouse

Family Home

My dream house for our family would include large bedrooms and private bathrooms for all of my family members and guests. An open concept main floor with a finished basement to send the kids with their friends with a pool table and ping pong. I’d like to encourage more old fashioned play instead of video games. I’d have a wrap around porch and a sun room. We’d need an office for my husband because he works from home. On the property, we’d have a heated swimming pool with a hot tub. Maybe a tennis court so I could actually learn to play. We’d be on the water somewhere, probably a bay or a lake. This house does not need to be huge, nor does the property. An acre or two is fine. It feels greedy to dream this way. I know we don’t need all this, but hey, it’s a dream, right? Continuing this dream, my kids will be successful enough to buy this home from us for our retirement.

retirement

Retirement Home

This one is even more difficult to imagine. I think there needs to be at least two. Initially, I think a condo near the water somewhere because I’ve lived on one coast or the other my entire life. It might be nice to try something different like a place in the mountains or desert. Either way, a small, comfortable condo with a pool on the premises would be fine. An extra bedroom for guests is all we’ll need. Our second “home” would be a motor home. Perhaps a classic Airstream. We’d explore the country and Canada visiting every national park.

That life plan sounds perfect for me too! Beautiful home, beautiful views, beautiful land…we don’t ask for too much!

  2. Danialle says:

I know most people imagine a big house as their dream home, but I think I’d prefer a small cozy little cottage. Maybe something near a clean, beautiful lake. With plenty of flowers and plants around, or a garden outside. And tons of colors and decor handmade by me inside the house!

I agree that the dream house does not need to be too big. I love the cottage idea as a retirement option too.

  3. Allie says:

I love your family dream home- but I especially love the condo/airstream idea. I love family road trips and I think that I’ll be spending my retirement doing the same! But I do want a home base, and a condo by the water sounds perfect.

  4. Dede says:

I love your dream house photo on the top. That’s beautiful! I want a farmhouse style on a couple of acres of farmland. My question is…..would I have a housekeeper for my dream home? Because the size I’d like would depend entirely on that. HA!!!!

  5. Emily says:

I think my dream home would be one with a loft and a barn. Maybe one day!

  6. My dream home would be very similar to yous, spacious, open floor plan, bathroom for all bedrooms. I’d love to have a home on the beach where the sun shines and it’s 75Β° year round. Oh, and self-cleaning everything! That’s possible, right?

  7. We are getting ready to move and I have lived in such a small house for so long that anything will become my dream house. I really would just love 4 bedrooms and a basement. Small houses + 3 kids = very loud.

  8. Emily says:

My dream home would have tons of storage space and a BIG kitchen. I’ve always wound up in homes with tiny kitchens which makes cooking so much more stressful.

  9. That is a beautiful house! DH would like a cabin in the mountains. Not sure if that will ever happen though. πŸ™‚

  10. Ok now you’re just making me daydream. πŸ™‚ I like the idea of the 2nd home as mobile home too. Would be fun to see the country!

  11. Sarah says:

I want an old farm house (minus lead paint and ghosts). I want a big wrap around porch and no noisy neighbors. I want a fenced in yard so my dogs can run free AND I want chickens and a goat named Vincent Van Goatee. lol

  12. Holli says:

I like the idea of traveling during your retirement- that’s something my late grandfather did and it gave him the opportunity to see parts of the country he might not have otherwise been able to!

  13. You had me at heated swimming pool with a hot tub. Love it!

  14. Dina says:

it pretty much sounds like your dream house is my dream house. With a large huge front porch!!

  15. Lena says:

I sorta like the idea of the trailer for retirement home – Travel! Here I come!!

  16. Liz says:

That house is gorgeous. And a motor home would be fun too! When I was at a blogging conference in Anaheim in February, I saw some really nice ones at an event I went to.
