Easy Deck Ideas for the Best Summer Ever

Thanks to the folks at Timbertech for sponsoring this post

Easy deck ideas are the best ideas. We all love deck living. The weather is warm, the grill is hot, and the chairs are welcoming. It’s the perfect time of year for outdoor living. We love sitting on our deck in the summer and watching the sun rise or set – we enjoy both. It’s a wonderful place to appreciate the beauty of the lawn and garden that we work so hard on, and it’s also a wonderful hub for family time. Whether you’re relaxing on your deck with the family or throwing a big backyard bash, these easy deck ideas will help you make the most of your deck living this year.

Easy Deck Ideas That Aren’t a Lot of Work

I often see Pinterest boards filled with deck ideas and think to myself, “Is anyone ever really going to take the time to keep that in order?” Of course, those decks with chaise lounges, area rugs (yes, I’ve seen it), and hanging lamps look amazing but come on, it’s not very practical for everyday living. These easy decorating ideas give a nice, inviting feel without being a ridiculous amount of work.

Easy to Care for Furniture

Rather than all that fancy stuff, I like to go with ease. Wooden furniture or furniture made with washable, outdoor rated materials like resin wicker or coated metal are a great option for making the deck inviting.

With these, your deck can have all the comforts of an indoor space and still be easy to clean with nothing more than some soapy water and a hose.

Washable Throw Pillows

Of course, the drawback of wood furniture, and even some outdoor-rated furniture is how hard they can be. Much of the outdoor furniture you’ll find has cushions as hard as wood, which I imagine helps keep moisture from being retained within the cushions.

Washable throw pillows help add visual interest to your space and cushion against the hard seats and backs of both wood and outdoor-rated furniture, making them essential double duty deck addition.

Potted Plants

Potted plants are another excellent way to add to the vibe of your deck. They make my list of easy deck ideas because once planted, they can be relatively easy to care for if you pick the right plants. Another plus of plants is that you can plant ivy if you have a latticed railing, which will produce a wonderful effect over time.

One last thing to note is that with so many pot options out there, the pots themselves become wonderful focal points within your deck space. I love how these planters form an outer border to this deck.

Decorative Lighting

Nothing sets the mood like fun lighting to illuminate your deck at night. From small tea lights to large lanterns, there is something for everyone. I love hanging bulbs around our canopy. Solar lanterns that power themselves also come in handy. To help keep the bugs away, we often use citronella candles as well.

Add a Bar Area

Okay, I know I said easy, but hear me out. Unless you’re going for the next level celebrity bar look, adding a bar area to your deck isn’t all that difficult. You don’t have to have a wet bar, after all. There are plenty of deck ideas out there that essentially house a cooler that you fill with ice and then have a bar above where you can set the bottles of your favorite spirits. If you don’t drink, you can simply put your pop, bottled water, and the like in the cooler. A wooden top table like this one is a great inexpensive option as well.

Use Quality Materials When You Build

The last and most important point on my list of easy deck ideas is to start off right. We live in an age where building decks of cedar or pine and then staining them every year or two is no longer required.

A low-maintenance deck is an easy deck, which is why I highly recommend building a deck with composite decking. If you want a deck or if your current deck is past its prime, a composite deck is a key to easy deck living. It lasts far longer than wood, has a wood look, and is super easy to clean.
