We all face challenges in life. How we overcome them is what counts. How do you react when faced with a challenge? Can you seize the moment and push through?
For me, nothing is worse than when something gets in my way of doing what I love. About 10 years ago, I was 50 pounds overweight. I was tired all the time and could not keep up with my kids. I finally made changes to lose the weight and make my family a priority, and now we love to exercise and play together. We especially like going on family hikes.

Recently, I’ve had to deal with a new challenge in my life—light bladder leakage (LBL). A few months ago, I had an unexpected leak jumping rope with my daughter. I thought I was too young for LBL and was worried that it might keep me from doing the things I love.
Something I love most is adventure travel. I had a trip booked to go on an adventure tour in Utah. The last thing I wanted to deal with on the trip was a bladder control issue, so I spoke to my doctor to get more information about how to manage my LBL.
My doctor told me that bladder control issues are rather common, and that I should not feel ashamed. Did you know that nearly one third of women deal with bladder control issues?
My doctor recommended the following:
Kegel Exercises
These exercises work to stabilize your pelvic floor and can help minimize bladder leakage issues.
Avoid Sensitive Foods
Some foods and drinks can be triggers for an overactive bladder. You should minimize spicy foods, alcohol and caffeine, for example.
Keep Hydrated
If you are dehydrated, your bladder and urethra can be irritated because your urine is more concentrated. This can cause spasms and unexpected leaks.
I was so happy to feel informed and prepared for my trip. I made sure to have Poise Thin-Shape Pads* in my backpack, and I keep them in my purse too. They are so thin and comfortable, I barely notice when I’m wearing them.
The trip was amazing! I was able to hike, zip line and rappel without the fear of a little leak. My favorite activity was rappelling in slot canyons. I can’t wait to go back and do it again with my entire family.
I’m so glad I seized my #PoiseMoment! I can now feel confident no matter the situation. I can do what I love without LBL holding me back.
The folks at Poise have teamed up with TV celebrity, mom, CEO and actress Brooke Burke-Charvet. Brooke encourages women to talk about bladder leaks, and normalize the conversation while empowering women to use the right protection for LBL and keep doing what they love to do.
I’m ready for my next adventure!

It’s great that more and more women are able to talk about LBL. I like that the Poise liners are thin and discrete.
I love that you focus on doing the things that you love. That’s so inspiring and so important.
Yikes, I like spicy foods. I didn’t know that was a contributing factor. I’ll have to remember that if I start having issues.
I love all the hiking pictures you have of you. You look like you’re having a lot of fun, the outdoors is great, I love it too.
Love these tips!! It is amazing how much lbl can affect your life, love that Poise makes products to help women.
These are great tips! I’ve never heard the one about staying hydrated but that does make a lot of sense!
No one should let LBL hold them back from enjoying life. Poise liners are amazing for being so thin.
I love that Poise is available for women with LBL. It is a great way to feel confident to do the things you want to do. I will have to pick some up so I can jump on the trampoline again lol.
I wish that I lived near the mountains. This would be something that I would love to do someday. Lots of great exercise and fun!
Oh yes… that ‘thing’ we don’t want to talk about but we all think about. thanks so much for bringing it out in the open for discussion. 🙂
Ah, for the days when I was so active. I wish I had your energy, but now all I do is work and sleep. It seems I am zapped after a day’s work, and that is all the energy I have.
If I lived closer to mountains I would totally be doing this more. I’m such a nature girl. I really am going to ponder on that top question though. Made me wonder.
Poise liners can be such a life saver! I’m glad you found something that works so well!
I think a lot of women suffer from this, especially if they’ve had kids. Love that you’ve found a way to not let it slow you down!
So glad that you’re able to do what your love. I would love to try rappelling one day. It looks like a lot of fun!
I think having a little help from Poise would keep any woman more confident. Nothing worse than a leak on the go.
Omg! I can totally relate. Thanks so much for sharing & opening up about a topic from which many women suffer.
That looks like a really fun time! All those activities seem so neat! I’m glad you found something that works well for you. And way to go with losing the weight and getting active with your family!!
So happy for you that you found something that works for you. Sounds like you are ready to take on the world.
