Do You Feel Free to Do What You Love?

We all face challenges in life. How we overcome them is what counts. How do you react when faced with a challenge? Can you seize the moment and push through?

For me, nothing is worse than when something gets in my way of doing what I love. About 10 years ago, I was 50 pounds overweight. I was tired all the time and could not keep up with my kids. I finally made changes to lose the weight and make my family a priority, and now we love to exercise and play together. We especially like going on family hikes.

Recently, I’ve had to deal with a new challenge in my life—light bladder leakage (LBL). A few months ago, I had an unexpected leak jumping rope with my daughter. I thought I was too young for LBL and was worried that it might keep me from doing the things I love.

Something I love most is adventure travel. I had a trip booked to go on an adventure tour in Utah. The last thing I wanted to deal with on the trip was a bladder control issue, so I spoke to my doctor to get more information about how to manage my LBL.

My doctor told me that bladder control issues are rather common, and that I should not feel ashamed. Did you know that nearly one third of women deal with bladder control issues?

My doctor recommended the following:

Kegel Exercises

These exercises work to stabilize your pelvic floor and can help minimize bladder leakage issues.

Avoid Sensitive Foods

Some foods and drinks can be triggers for an overactive bladder. You should minimize spicy foods, alcohol and caffeine, for example.

Keep Hydrated
If you are dehydrated, your bladder and urethra can be irritated because your urine is more concentrated. This can cause spasms and unexpected leaks.

I was so happy to feel informed and prepared for my trip. I made sure to have Poise Thin-Shape Pads* in my backpack, and I keep them in my purse too. They are so thin and comfortable, I barely notice when I’m wearing them.

The trip was amazing! I was able to hike, zip line and rappel without the fear of a little leak. My favorite activity was rappelling in slot canyons. I can’t wait to go back and do it again with my entire family.

I’m so glad I seized my #PoiseMoment! I can now feel confident no matter the situation. I can do what I love without LBL holding me back.

First Rapel in Utah

The folks at Poise have teamed up with TV celebrity, mom, CEO and actress Brooke Burke-Charvet. Brooke encourages women to talk about bladder leaks, and normalize the conversation while empowering women to use the right protection for LBL and keep doing what they love to do.

I’m ready for my next adventure!
