Health Benefits of Garlic

Health Benefits of Garlic

Garlic health benefits are huge, garlic has been loved for the delicious boost of flavor it adds to meals, and is recognized for its many health benefits including its disease fighting potential. For garlic lovers this is all good news and to make things even better, garlic health benefits have now been connected to fat loss, making it a miracle food of sorts. Garlic has been used as a medicine for thousands of years; Egyptian hieroglyphics have even been found recording that garlic was provided to the laborers building the pyramids because it kept them healthy, and the Greeks fed garlic to athletes competing in the Olympic Games.

Garlic contains allicin, a compound that has anti-bacterial properties, helps rid the body of unhealthy fats in blood which contributes to its cholesterol lowering abilities, and acts as an appetite suppressant by signaling the brain that you’re satisfied even after consuming only a small amount of food. Garlic also boosts your metabolism (a natural fat burner) by stimulating your nervous system, leading to an increase in adrenaline.

The list of health benefits attributed to garlic continues to grow including preventing cancer and heart disease to fighting off infections. Behind all the bold claims are the unique compounds in garlic that gives it its potent flavor; allicin (mentioned above) and diallyl sulfide. Although allicin is impaired during the cooking process, other beneficial compounds are created by heat so it still give you a sort of healthy, fat burning tonic. Garlic also contains selenium and vitamins C and E, powerful antioxidants. Don’t forget that when your body gets the nutrients it requires, its chances are better when it comes to balancing and healing itself.

When we talk about the garlic health benefits  when it comes to fat loss, that doesn’t’ meant that you can sit on the couch all day eating garlic fries and sprinkling some garlic on your pasta and still burn fat and lose weight; just use common sense when it comes to living a healthy lifestyle. By making time to exercise, choosing healthy foods most of the time, and topping them off with fresh garlic, you’ll have the perfect fat burning combination.

When it comes to getting the most out of the health benefits of garlic it’s always better to go fresh. So far while many manufacturers’ claim that garlic pills deliver the same actual results, the findings have been mixed. It’s not clear if the beneficial compounds in garlic continue to be potent after being processed into a supplement.

A lot of at home cooks make the mistake of cooking their garlic right after chopping or crushing it. To take full advantage of the health benefits of garlic you should crush or dice it up at room temperature and let it sit for around 15 minutes; this very important step activates an enzyme reaction that increases the healthful compounds in garlic.

Research continues regarding how truly effective garlic health benefits are, but so far the results of several studies have been extremely promising; what we do know is that garlic definitely helps achieve weight and fat loss.
