5 Tips for a Healthy Start to Your Day

Wake 15 Minutes Early

Hitting the snooze button or waiting until the last possible minute to get out of bed can cause unnecessary stress. A few extra minutes of low-quality sleep can actually make you more tired. Set your alarm 15 minutes earlier to allow yourself to wake up gently. Stretch your limbs while still laying down. As you rise, you will feel more refreshed and energized.

Think positive

Leave a few words of encouragement by your bed or on your bathroom mirror. Consider a daily affirmation. I recently started using this one: “Today, I am having the most wonderful, happy and productive day.” I also have a handmade card from my daughter by my bed. It always puts a smile on my face.

Get Your Groove On

Music is a great way to boost your mood and minimize stress. Consider what music makes you feel motivated, calm or energized. Spend at least 5-10 minutes listening to your favorite music. We sometimes rock out in the kitchen while having our breakfast. Create a get-going playlist for your mornings.

Set Your Daily Goals

The morning is a great time to set your priorities. Keep focused on your purpose for the day. Figure out what matters most and what can wait. This will ensure that you complete your top priorities first. Keep an ongoing list somewhere as a reminder. Checking off each accomplishment provides a feel-good moment too!

Pack Great On-the-Go Snacks!

I recently had the opportunity to try LALA Yogurt Smoothies. They are a convenient way for me to get my morning going providing me delicious and nutritious yogurt smoothies to fuel my busy, active lifestyle. Both my daughter and I often like a LALA Yogurt Smoothie on the ride to her school, which is 30 minutes away. I especially like the Curb Yogurt Smoothie. With 10 grams of protein and 8 grams of whole grains, it keeps me fueled up for hours.

When I’m heading to the gym or out for a run, the LALA Yogurt Smoothies are also a great option. I’ll pack one in my gym bag or drink one right when I get back from a run. Drinking a LALA Yogurt Smoothie is better than having to slow down by stopping to eat regular cup yogurt. Who has time for that these days?

  1. Like many others, I find mornings the hardest part of my day. Many people recommended that I start my day with yoga or meditation but realistically I am unable to do that. What I do every day in the morning is start my day with some lemon water at room temperature. After that, I do some simple stretches depending on the time I have….then the usual morning chores follow. Waking a few minutes earlier will definitely help and now I have set the alarm 15 minutes earlier.

  2. I definitely start with my workout first thing in the morning. It gives me so much energy and sets the tone for the rest of the day.

  3. Leah says:

I’m definitely gonna do the 15 minutes early thing tomorrow! I’m so tired of rushing around in the morning, and having 15 extra minutes to get ready sounds like a dream.

  4. Could not agree with you more on all your points. For sure, positive thinking has been scientifically proven to have a true impact on both your physical/emotional daily life and longterm living.

  5. I have been seeing these all over the web lately. I have yet to see them in the supermarket.

  6. Liz Mays says:

I’m liking your ideas! I have a long day ahead of me tomorrow and I want to start it off strong.

  7. Tammi Roy says:

LALA Yogurt Smoothies look delicious and so easy to grab and go. I will have to pick some up on the weekend.

  8. Tess says:

That is a healthy way to start your day. Yogurt rocks!

  9. These look so handy to have around. I am always on the lookout for healthy snacks!

  10. Definitely Greek yogurt smoothies! I always start my day with a smoothie, and Greek yogurt is the best way to get my probiotics!
