More and more products are coming to market that help your track your daily activities. Salutron Inc, known as an industry leader for fitness and wellness products, recently launched its newest activity tracker, the LifeTrak Move C300 (Retail $59.99). Over the past month, I had the opportunity to give it a try. According to the company:
LifeTrak Move C300 provides the most advanced, fashionable, and durable device for easily and accurately tracking daily activities. Given its comfortable and waterproof design, whether you’re at the office, at home, exercising, or swimming, you never have to manually track your heart rate, distance, calorie burn and steps taken again. The full display right on your wrist allows to see your daily and weekly progress so staying on track with personal goals has never been easier, or more affordable.
At first glance, I found the tracker to be cool and stylish. I love all of the features that can be displayed right on your wrist. The fact that the tracker is waterproof to 90 feet is pretty cool too. Here’s a graphic from the company’s website to show off all the great features:
Unfortunately, on my tiny and bony wrist, the Move C300 was a bit clunky and uncomfortable. At first, it also had difficulty tracking my steps and heart rate, but after playing around with it a bit, I got it to work. The product manual has good troubleshooting instructions so this helped me fix my issues. The web site has a great FAQ section as well and they are working on instructional videos, which I think will be really helpful for visual learners like me.
Apparently, I am more of a light walker, so I just needed to change a setting to get a more accurate step count for me. My father, who found the wrist activity tracker more comfortable switched the settings to a heavier step for an accurate count for him. My husband was a more neutral walker so the base settings worked well for him. He also found the wrist monitor to be more comfortable. In fact, my father liked it so much, he’s been wearing it for the past week to track his steps and calories. He’s recently learned that he has some health issues so this is a great tool for him to set goals and get moving.
For me, my favorite aspect of the LifeTrak system is the Argus Activity Tracking App. I believe it is only available for iOS right now, but an Adroid version is coming soon. Putting my iPhone in my pocket or on my arm strap was more comfortable and tracked my steps very accurately. Here are some screen shots from the app:
You can see that I set my goals for walking, water and sleeping. I also like the all-in-one display (3rd screenshot) that serves as an at-a-glance look for the app homepage. You can add in other activities like yoga, cycling, etc. Since I typically have my phone with me all the time, this is a great tool for me. The only drawback is that it can’t access my heart rate or go swimming with me. Here are more feature highlights for the Argus app:
Overall, I think the LifeTrak Activity Tracker is a great too for those it fits. I hope the company may consider creating a smaller version for women too. Otherwise, I really love the Argus App and will continue to use it. And, my father will continue to use the wrist activity tracker. So, I guess we are motivation two people toward health and fitness goals. Not bad LifeTrak!
