Mindfulness Activities for Better Self Care

As a busy mom, I often put my own self-care low on my priority list. With the start of the new year, I made it a goal to make sure that I care for myself properly. After all, a happy and healthy mom makes for a happy and healthy family.

One of the most important ways to practice self-care is to embrace a sense of positivity. Outlook has a drastic effect on our health, so living a more positive life can help keep us healthier and happier. Here’s how I make that effort in my own life.

Exercise mindfully

Exercise is as good for your mind as it is for your body. While reshaping your body and keeping you healthy physically, exercise releases endorphins which help keep your mind healthy as well. It’s easier to be positive when you’re flooded with feel-good hormones.

Picture your success

Having a clear picture in your mind of what you want to achieve is the first step to success in anything. Whether you are training to lose a few pounds or run a 5K, creating a mental picture for success is what will get you to your goal.

Helping your brain focus on what success looks like is a dress rehearsal for your goals. The more you practice, the more your mind will believe it to be true. Try to make your thoughts about success as clear and concrete as possible. Imagine every step of the way as if it’s already happened. This is a great way to prep for the pressure that may come when taking on a new challenge.

Get help from tech tools

They say it takes a village, but in this case, it only takes an app.  I’ll be using the ASICS Studio™ app to help me with mindfulness, meditation and more physical activity.

In addition to the standard areas of fitness like treadmill, running, and strength training, the ASICS Studio app also helps with mental health and fitness with a yoga and mindfulness category.

Visit the ASICS Studio™ website for more information. Here, you can sign up for a free 7-day trial and download the app.

Try meditation

Meditation has long been a part of homeopathic medicine, in other countries, and studies have shown that it can help reduce stress, improve mental outlook, support immune function and reduce depression and anxiety.

It can seem overwhelming at first. Start by setting aside 5 minutes each day. If your brain is always in high gear, you might want to add meditation to your self-care routine for 2020. The more you practice, the better you’ll get. The ASICS Studio app really helps with this.

Practice mindful eating

You might be wondering how mindful eating fits into a routine focused on a more positive outlook. Well, if you’re like most of us, just think back to the last time you overindulged. Chances are, all the positive self-talk I mentioned earlier went right out the window. You felt the tightness of your pants and the discomfort of your belly and immediately started berating yourself.

Rather than subject yourself to both physical and mental discomfort, practice mindful eating. Slow down. Think about what you’re putting into your body. Really focus on what you’re eating. You’ll find that you tend to overeat less, feel less bloated, and generally feel better about life.

Surround yourself with positive people.

Negative people may increase your stress level and make you doubt yourself. They’ll also make it difficult to keep your positive outlook because of their constant negative feedback. Keep positive, supportive people in your life that you can depend on to give helpful advice and feedback.

Practice positive self-talk.

We tend to be our own worst enemies, but what if we were our own greatest heroes? Be kind and encouraging with yourself. If a negative thought come up, try to respond with affirmations of what is good about you. These are great to use while you meditate.

Keep a gratitude journal

One of the best ways to maintain that positive outlook you’re trying for is to keep a gratitude journal. These journals are great tools for teaching you how to focus on the positives in your life rather than the negatives.y

I’m positive you and I can do It

I’m looking forward to living a more mindful and positive life, and I hope you’ll join me on that journey. With everything going on in the world today, it’s easy to fall into a trap of negativity, but that won’t do anything to make our lives better.

Rather than all of that gloom and doom, I’m choosing to take better care of myself by focusing on positivity through both mental and physical activities. Please join me and make 2020 the year of positivity for better self-care.

Self care is so important. Physical, social, and mental. My favorite form of self care is taking a shower, wash my hair, listen to my playlist of favorite songs, wash my face, put on some lotion, dab on some lip balm, and drink a cup of water. I usually write my book after, but something about cleaning/cleansing myself is so refreshing and loving.
