A New Healthy Treat: Frozen Yogurt Pearls

Healthy Treats - Frozen Yogurt Pearls from Stonyfield

I’m always on the lookout for healthy treats for both myself and my kids. My kids are constantly begging me for candy and ice cream. I found a healthy treat that satisfies their cravings for both. A new product from Stonyfield Farms is their frozen yogurt pearls.

What is a Frozen Yogurt Pearl?

According to the folks at Stonyfield, “Frozen Yogurt Pearls are scoops of frozen yogurt enveloped in edible skins. Inspired by how nature packages fruit – like the skin of a grape – these treats are a giant step towards a truly sustainable package.

These edible wrappers were developed by Professor David Edwards and his team at WikiFoods and were named one of TIME’s 25 Best Inventions of 2014.  They’re a huge step towards reaching Stonyfield CEO Gary Hirshberg’s dream of eliminating waste and creating the “edible cup.”

What do I think?

At first, I was not sure how to describe these. The texture created by the edible skin takes a moment to get used to. Overall, I really like them. My daughter thinks they are super “yummy!” Each package comes with two bite size pearls. I’d say each pearl is actually about two bites so you get four delicious bites for your healthy treat.

What is extra “cool” (yes, pun intended) about the yogurt pearls is that they are very portable. There is no need for a spoon, and they don’t melt in your hand. I can pack a few boxes and bring them in the carpool lane for an after-school snack before gymnastics or dance.

Current Flavors

  • Peach/Vanilla
  • Strawberry/Vanilla
  • Coconut/Chocolate

The Coconut/Chocolate are my favorites. My daughter loves the Strawberry/Vanilla. My dog even wanted a taste. Sorry pooch, these are just for me!
