We had a long school year due to snow days. My kids are so excited that summer vacation has finally begun. The challenge with summer vacation is that the kids sometimes have WAY too much free time on their hands. TV, computers and tablets are very tempting time fillers throughout the day.
International Play Equipment Manufacturers Association (IPEMA) and the Voice of Play want to promote activities and ideas that get kids – and parents – outside. What better way to do this than by celebrating the beginning of summer with a trip to your local playground?
We are lucky to live close to a local elementary school, which has two playgrounds, a basketball court, soccer field and small baseball field. It’s a great place to go to get the entire family outside to enjoy a variety of activities. The swings are a favorite for my daughter. The kids also love racing through the playground as an obstacle course while I time them. They pretend to be American Ninja Warriors! It’s a great place to meet and play with friends as well.
Over the years, we have so many fond memories of family play at this playground. We’ve been going there for over 5 years now and I’m sure we have many years of playtime ahead. Have you checked out your local playground lately? Give it a try!
The Voice of Play is an education and advocacy initiative of the non-profit membership association, IPEMA, formed to educate and promote the benefits of children’s free outdoor play and playgrounds. Through the Voice of Play website and social media properties, IPEMA highlights the scientifically proven physical, social, emotional and cognitive benefits of play.
