NOW Foods: The Secret Science Behind a Great Company

As a Blogger, I am lucky to have the opportunity to find out about great products, but I don’t often get to visit the companies in person. Last week, I had the pleasure of attending the #NOWwellness immersion program at NOW Foods in Bloomingdale, IL.

NOW Foods: The secret science behind a great company

While a lot of science goes into making the wonderful products at NOW Foods, the real secret behind the company’s success is their people. From the company CEO down to the warehouse employees, there is a true sense of pride in working for this company.

NOW Foods lives by the Golden Rule. They aim to treat their customers as they would treat their family members. Still a family owned company, the founding “father” was a scientist who wanted to make pure products for his family. He started NOW Foods in the back of his own health food store and it’s grown to the company it is today.

Before our plant tour, we learned more about the NOW Foods essential oils collection. Essential Oils can be used in many ways. We made a yoga mat cleaner and foaming hand soap. My daughter is excited to try the oils and defuser in her room. She’s hoping the “Mental Focus” oil will help her concentrate on her homework. I’ll report back on how this goes. I’m excited to try other products like the skin care line, vitamins, probiotics and plant protein powder.

Upon touring the NOW Foods plant, it was clear that this was a special place. I was thoroughly impressed to find out all that goes into making NOW Foods products. They are extremely careful about quality control. They constantly test raw materials, in-process formulas and finished products to ensure the highest quality products get to their customers. NOW is one of the very few vitamin suppliers capable of testing for microbes in-house, allowing for greater control standards.

We found out that NOW stopped manufacturing rice protein for months until they could find a raw material supplier with the quality product they required. The NOW Food CEO, Jim Emme explained that they may have lost some customers (and certainly lost money), but they were determined to stick with their quality standards until they found a suitable raw material for their product. I doubt many companies would hold to such a high standard. I was very impressed!

ToniAfter our Plant Tour, we learned about how NOW Ambassador, Toni Church uses NOW products in her everyday life. Next, we had the chance to learn more about the NOW Foods edible collection including gluten-free cake mixes, “sugarless” sugar, quinoa pasta, and so much more. We also had the opportunity to taste a wide variety of food oils like Almond, Avocado, Macadamia Nut and more. We made personalized dressing and created our own mason jar salad too.
