Cold months are not just about staying indoors, but also a time when the skin needs greater care. Dryness, chapped skin, cheek burns, and other such skin problems make it look weathered and dull. A little effort from your side can keep your skin revitalized throughout the colder months. Here is a simple skin care guide to follow:

Drink plenty of water

No matter how many times you’ve heard this, reminder yourself to drink plenty of water throughout the day. The skin especially needs the extra hydration throughout the colder months.

Exfoliate the skin regularly

Exfoliating the skin, especially during the winters becomes highly essential. Dead cells accumulate over the skin during the winters, which need to be removed. Try using gentle exfoliating brushes and scrubs. Always try a small patch of skin to make sure your skin does not have an adverse reaction.

Moisturize, Moisturize and Moisturize

Keeping the skin moisturized in the colder months is the best defense against the harsh and dry weather. Oil based moisturizers nourish the skin better and keep it moisturized for longer. If you have acne prone skin, you may still want to go with the oil-free choices.

Use a moisturizing lip balm

Our lips are more prone to chapping during the winters than the summers. They need to be properly cared for. The regular application of a lip balm helps keep them protected against chapping and drying. Avoid licking your lips in case they are dry and you don’t have a balm to apply on them.

Avoid indoor heating blasts

Although, we all like to cuddle up at home during the colder months putting, we forget that too much heat can make the environment dry and steal away your skin’s natural oils and moisture.

Massage the body and face with flaxseed oil

Flaxseed oil has the ability to penetrate into the deeper layers of the skin and nourish to moisturize it from within. Its best to use during colder months. Try using it every other day.

Never forget your sunscreen

Whether it is sunny outside or cloudy, wearing sunscreen will keep your skin protected. It will protect the skin from both UV Rays and harsh winds, and keep your skin’s moisture locked in.

I am a hot shower fanatic too. So relaxing…I do drink a lot of water though. It’s the only think I drink other than my morning coffee.

  3. There are several on there that I have to get much better with. I need to drink more water in general, sunscreen throughout the year, and not stay in the nice hot shower for so long!!! I did not know that about the flaxseed oil! Thank you.
