Right now, we could all use a bit of strength to overcome life’s challenges and hope for the future. Can quotes related to overcoming adversity really help? Yes, they can! Research shows that referring to words that are inspiring can turn negative thoughts toward a more positive outlook and can really affect your mental health.

Especially if you are alone and can’t reach out for the hugs of loved ones or a single mom struggling to homeschool kids. Whatever your current struggles, think of these quotes as virtual hugs. They are quiet cheerleaders from the sidelines of your life.

What is Hope?

A dictionary definition would be “a feeling of expectation and a desire for certain things to happen.”

For me, hope it’s a feeling of what is possible in the future. Even when we are surrounded by negative experiences. Having hope that the future will not be as difficult.

It’s hopeful feelings that help me resume somewhat normal living during challenging times. It helps create a positive mindset to face current challenges allowing me to move on both emotionally and physically.

How Do You Inspire Hope?

Show others love and care

We all need to feel love and that we are cared for. Whether it comes from your partner, family, or friends, it feels wonderful to know that somebody cares about you. While we don’t usually know what people are going through, letting them know that somebody cares for them will give them hope and inspire positivity. If you know a friend or just anyone who needs any type of help, be there for them. No matter how little help you can offer, it will mean so much to someone who is struggling.

Make people feel they deserve happiness

Some people lose hope because they think they don’t deserve to be happy. If you know someone who is feeling down on themselves, do something to help. Remind them that everyone deserves to be happy. If a friend or loved one is stuck feeling this way, please recommend that they find a mental health professional. Encourage them without stigma.

Show people acceptance

There are times when we all feel that we’re not enough. When we know people who can look beyond our weaknesses, it gives us hope. Learn how to show people you accept them and care for them, regardless of who they are and what they do. Make them feel valued by showing unconditional love.

Share appreciation with others

One of my favorite things to do is to share a compliment with a stranger. Seeing the smile on their face helps me know that I did something to brighten their day. Even something small like complimenting someone’s shoes, hair or clothes. If you think a person deserves recognition for doing a good job, make sure you take the time to let them know.

Reach out and connect

This is a tough one because I often feel lonely and don’t let others know. Your friends or family may be feeling the same way. Much more than material things, there’s no better gift we can give than the gift of our time. Nothing can substitute the time you spend with those who need it. Be there to comfort them when they are down and to celebrate with them when they are happy. It may be a simple gesture like a phone call but it’s more than enough to make others feel loved and hopeful.
