What are Summer Legs, you may ask? Well, if you live in one of those warm and sunny climates, you likely aim to have “summer legs” all year round. You know; smooth shaven, soft and moisturized, painted toenails, etc. For those of us in the rest of the country, we are just coming out of a winter that was far too long. In New England, even our spring has been incredibly cold. I am finally ready to prep for summer by getting my legs “Summerized!”
As you’ll notice above, my poor legs have been sort of locked away in the closet – covered with long pants, socks and shoes. Shaving and moisturizing are often low on my priority list. You? Come on, I’m sure there are plenty of you out there just like me. Well, we can’t hide anymore. It’s time for shorts, skirts and swimsuits. What do you do to prep for summer? I headed to Walmart to pick up some key products for creating my best “summer legs.” They have great displays in the Personal Care area for fun in the sun and summer legs. I picked up the new Schick Intuition Pure Nourishment razor, Skintimate Shave Cream in Madarin Burst and Hawaiian Tropic Silk Hydration Moisturizing Sunscreen SPF 30.
Here are my tips for legs you will be proud to show off all summer long. Walmart has some great tips on their website too. Check them out here.
Step 1: Exfoliate
There are a variety of ways to exfoliate. I like to create my own exfoliation scrub at home. I combine granulated brown sugar with olive oil to form a paste. This creates a mild abrasive scrub that also has moisturizing properties from the olive oil. In the tub or shower, use warm water to rinse your skin and open the pours a bit. Apply the scrub to your legs. Gently rub your skin in a circular motion working from your feet and ankles up your legs. Pay extra attention to your heels and knees where the skin tends to be more dry and rough.
Step 2: Shave
Nothing feels better than a clean and smooth shave. I was asked to try the Schick Hydro Silk shaver. I really love it! The razor is surrounded by “moisturizing ribbons” in a skin conditioning solid with coconut milk and almond oil, which moisturizes skin during shaving. In addition, I used Skintimate Mandarin Burst Shave Cream. It smells great and is also super moisturizing. The blend of fragrances made me feel like I had a tropical oasis right in my shower.
Step 3: Self Tanner
Gone are the days of baking in the sun. If you want to add a healthy glow, I highly recommend finding a self tanner that you love. I like the ones that blend moisturizer with a tanner. I find that these do not streak as much. Another idea is to blend a self-tanner with some moisturizing lotion. Application after exfoliation and shaving is the perfect time to achieve the most natural look.
Step 4: Moisturizing Sunscreen
After all that hard work, you’ll want to keep those legs both moisturized and protected with sunscreen of at least SPF 30. I tried the Hawaiian Tropic Silk Hydration Moisturizing Sunscreen. It goes on smoothly and is not sticky or greasy. Sunscreen will help protect your legs against premature aging as well as reduce your risk of developing skin cancer.
Step 5: Pedicure
You don’t want to forget to make those feet and toes pretty to match your newly gorgeous legs. I recommend treating yourself to a pedicure at a spa, but if that’s not in your budget, you can certainly give yourself a lovely pedicure at home. The key items I always use are a foot file, nail clippers, toe spreader, and a nice bright nail color. Dab a little nail polish remover on a cotton swap to easily erase slight mistakes. I chose a fun navy blue. It goes with everything. What’s your favorite color?

I need a pedicure so bad. I’m going to try the scrub and then get that razor. Mine doesn’t have the moisturizer band.
I do all of the above, but I hit the leg tanner (yes they have those) to get my legs on track with the rest of my body before I bust out the skirts and dresses. I am very fair skinned so extra moisturizing is a must, especially when in the sun!
Your legs look great. I like the blue toes too! My legs hide all winter long as well and well, are covered with bruises from goat horns. It’s the way of the goatherd.

I’ve been working on getting my legs summer ready too. I’m currently loving my Body Shop exfoliate & lotion and my Aveeno sensitive shaving cream! Now I just need to prevent my self from getting further sun burn and just tan. LOL
