Getting Ahead of UTIs + Keeping Your Urinary Tract Healthy

This is a sponsored post on behalf of ellura. Opinions are 100% my own.

Do you ever get Urinary Tract Infections (aka UTIs)? I get them from time to time, and if there’s one thing you can say about them, it’s that they are the worst. They are so frustrating. I feel like I need to go to the bathroom 24/7 and that is NOT fun. And it’s not just during the day either. I get no sleep because I am so uncomfortable. UTIs really turn my life upside down.

UTIs can be a pain – literally – and they are the last thing you want to talk about. So, we suffer in silence and hope it will resolve on its own.

Once I can’t take it anymore, I head to the doctor, which is also not fun! I mean don’t we all LOVE to pee in a cup and wait for results? Then it’s usually a round of antibiotics to get rid of the darned thing. Then the antibiotics can have their own side effects. UTIs create a cycle of events that no one wants to repeat.

I have friends who get frequent UTIs. OMG, I can’t imagine. That’s why I’m here to talk about UTI prevention. Whether you get them all the time, or every once in a while, there are things you can do to keep your urinary tract healthy and help keep those infections at bay.

MY TIPS FOR UTI PREVENTION

If you are like me, you want to do everything possible to keep those UTIs away. While I can’t guarantee you’ll never get another UTI, I do have some tips to help keep your urinary tract healthy and happy. I follow these tips myself because UTIs SUCK and I want to prevent them from coming back.

DRINK LOTS OF WATER

Drinking plenty of water helps keep your body functioning at peak performance. The better hydrated you are, the better your body works, that includes your urinary tract. We want to help flush out (pun intended) the bacteria that can lead to UTIs. My doc tells me my pee should be close to clear. If you’re one of those people that only needs to go two or three times a day, you are probably not drinking enough.

DON’T HOLD IT

Make a conscious effort to urinate every three to four hours. Holding it when you really need to go can cause a buildup of bacteria. You literally want to “go with the flow.”

FRONT TO BACK

You probably learned this from your mom, but wiping from front to back helps keep any bacteria lurking in that area from getting into our urethras which can cause a UTI. This one is helpful but alone, may not be enough to help keep UTIs away.

BEFORE AND AFTER SEX

Yup, we have to talk about sex too, so let’s be real. Sex can cause UTIs because it pushes UTI-causing bacteria to go into our urethra, so we have to be vigilant with our “before and after” hygiene.

Be sure to urinate after sex to push any bacteria in the area out.

NO SCENTED PRODUCTS

Of course, we all want to be fresh down there, but that doesn’t mean we have to smell like a flower garden. In fact, we shouldn’t. Scented products can disrupt our natural bacteria, which is the good kind.

For UTI prevention, avoid products like scented pads or tampons, scented powders, deodorant sprays, bath oils, and bubble baths.

TAKE A UTI PREVENTION SUPPLEMENT LIKE ELLURA

Help keep those UTIs away with support from ellura. ellura is a medical-grade supplement that can help stop UTI’s before they start. ellura uses a powerful natural ingredient called proanthocyanidins (PAC).

The PAC attaches to UTI-causing bacteria, so they don’t  attach to you and cause an infection! ellura also comes in a travel size bottle that I keep in my purse.

Powerful PAC

ellura is highly potent because unlike other products on the market, ellura is made from pure cranberry juice extract, which allows the PAC in ellura to bind to the bacteria. The PAC in ellura really “packs” a punch on UTIs, get it? LOL

Other supplements on the market claim to have the same amount of PAC as ellura. But here’s the thing: the amount of PAC contained in a supplement alone is not enough. The type of PAC matters. This is where ellura wins.

The thing that I love the most about ellura is that it’s backed by extensive clinical research led by urologists. It’s now the most recommended non-prescription supplement of its kind recommended by healthcare providers.

ellura is naturally sourced and has no known side effects.  (If you have a red fruit allergy, please consult your doctor before you start.)
