Homemade Iced Chai Latte

  • 6 cups water
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar see alternatives
  • 2 cinnamon sticks about 3 inches
  • 4 star anise
  • 9 whole cloves
  • 1-2 inches fresh ginger peeled
  • 1 tsp black peppercorns
  • 2 tsp cardamon seeds
  • 1 tsp coriander seeds
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 8 teabags black tea My favorite is Twinnings Irish Breakfast
  • milk


  1. Combine the water, sugar, and spices in a medium-sized saucepan over medium heat.
  2. Bring to a boil, then simmer for 10 minutes.
  3. Turn heat off and add the teabags.
  4. Allow the tea to steep for 20 minutes.
  5. Remove the tea bags and allow the tea to cool.
  6. Strain out the tea leaves or tea bags and spices and discard.
  7. add vanilla extract and stir
  8. Chill Chai mixture in the refrigerator for about an hour.
  9. Pour the cooled tea over ice and top with the milk of your choice.

Recipe Notes

I don't specify servings in this recipe as it really depends on how big you like your latte. I'd say it makes about 4-6. You can play with using other sweeteners like honey or maple syrup. You can also use your choice of milk. I use almond milk and my husband uses cow's milk.
